Advanced concepts of news-gathering, interviewing, and writing. Students will be assigned beats covering neighborhood communities and local government. Extensive research, interviewing, meeting coverage, and writing is involved. Students will improve and expand their news-gathering, writing skills, and knowledge through the use of the Public Records Act.
This course meets a requirement for the AA and AA-T degree in journalism. It also meets a requirement for a certificate in Data Journalism, Photojournalism, and Entrepreneurship & Innovation in Journalism. This course prepares the student for the development of in-depth investigative story with in the intent of getting it published in the campus newspaper or magazine or in a local publication.
